Community Guidelines
DRAFT — placeholder written by engineering on 2026-09-18. Not reviewed by counsel. Not for publication.
A skeleton drawn from what moderation already enforces: docs/architecture/moderation-architecture.md (report reasons, actions, appeals) and docs/architecture/communities-architecture.md §7 (community-scoped moderation). The report reasons below are the ones the product actually offers, so the list is not invented — but the wording a user reads, and anything about legal obligations, is counsel's.
What these cover
Everything you post or send on Sotillion: posts, comments, direct messages, community posts, event listings, job listings, organization and startup profiles, and team and hackathon content. They apply to organizations as well as people.
Not allowed
The eight reasons anyone can report something for, in the product's own vocabulary:
| Reason | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Spam | repetitive, automated or deceptive posting; engagement farming; unsolicited promotion |
| Harassment | targeting a person, bullying, threats, unwanted sexual attention, coordinated pile-ons |
| Hate | attacks on people for who they are |
| Sexual | sexual content, and any sexual content involving minors — reported to authorities |
| Violence | threats, incitement, glorification, graphic violence |
| Impersonation | pretending to be another person, organization or event; fake organizer identities |
| Illegal | anything unlawful, including selling what may not be sold |
| Other | anything else, with a written explanation |
Additionally, because this is a ticketing platform: no listing an event you have no right to run, no reselling a ticket outside the transfer the product provides, and no attempt to reuse, duplicate or forge a ticket credential.
Reporting
Anyone can report a post, comment, user, message, event, community, job listing or organization. One report per person per target; the content is snapshotted at the moment you report it, so an edited or deleted item can still be reviewed, and a reviewer sees only what was reported — never a browsing window into the rest of someone's account or a conversation.
What can happen
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Dismissed | nothing happens to the target; the report is closed |
| Warning | a notification to the author explaining what broke the rules |
| Removal | the post, comment or listing is taken down and shows as removed; the author is told |
| Suspension | the account goes read-only, with a reason and an end date; tickets and refunds in flight are unaffected |
An account is never "removed" — an account is suspended, and an organization is a party rather than a post, so the levers there are verification and cancellation rather than takedown.
Appeals
One appeal per suspension, answered within 5 working days (docs/security/data-protection.md). The outcome is either upheld or lifted, and you are told which. Community-level actions (mute, ban, removal from a community) can be appealed to platform staff; a post that a community moderator removed stays removed even if the membership action is reversed.
Communities
A community has one organiser and up to three moderators, who set the community's own rules on top of these. A community's rules can be stricter than these guidelines; they can never be looser. Leaving a community is always allowed and is never held against you.
Events and organizers
Organizers describe their event honestly — date, place, age restriction, what a ticket includes and the refund window — and run it as described. Cancelling an event triggers automatic refunds to every ticket holder.
Enforcement notes
Every moderation action is recorded with who took it and why. Repeated or severe breaches escalate. The specific thresholds, the strike model and anything about law-enforcement escalation are open and belong to counsel and the owner.
